The Minnesota Vikings announced today the team will not exercise the 2017 option on RB Adrian Peterson’s contract. Peterson will become an unrestricted free agent on Thursday, March 9. Peterson was due $18 million next season.
“Adrian is an important part of the Minnesota Vikings organization,” said Vikings General Manager Rick Spielman. “We will continue to have conversations with his representatives and leave our future options open while determining what is best for both parties moving forward.”
The door is still open for Peterson to remain a Viking. I am sure he will test the market and see what his value is. A 31 year old running back coming off of 2 major knee surgery isn’t that enticing. But as we have seen with Peterson, he isn’t your typical running back. He has show the ability to be productive even after injury. If the money is right, I would definitely sign him.
